About ICL

The Inter-Canyon League (ICL) is a group of residents who live in the canyons that are concerned about protecting and preserving the unique way of life. Not an advocacy group, the ICL views its mission as keeping residents informed and educated about issues affecting their everyday lives. We publicize and organize meetings for various groups; support local non-profit organizations; raise money for causes such as repairing the community centers; distribute educational materials; preserve community archives; publish the community newsletter, and generally distribute necessary information.

We do not see our role as taking stands on public issues. Instead we think it's important to present the facts to the community and let individual members decide their positions.

Most of ICL's work is done through committees. These include:

Fundraising: Organizes events such as Canyons Go Country; Friends of the Library, which raises money for the Silverado Library.
FireSafe Council: Is working on a master safety plan for the canyons.
Canyon Watch: Organizes volunteers on fire watches during high hazard weather conditions.
Environmental: Monitors planned developments and other environmental issues.
History: Preserving community documents.

Our major accomplishments include organizing a major annual fundraiser that brings the community together for fun and a purpose; securing grant funds to help families devastated by disasters such as the recent rock slides; attracting large numbers of community residents to information meetings on local developments; raising thousands of dollars every year to support the financially strapped Silverado Library; organizing volunteer support for library staff; running the annual Pet Clinic; helping with the Volunteer Firefighters' annual breakfast; helping manage and fund the annual Canyon Clean Sweep; publishing the canyon directory and newsletter, and setting up the Inter-Canyon League website. We also were awarded a $50,000 grant to design and implement a fire safe plan for the canyon areas.

ICL membership is open to anyone interested in protecting our unique way of life. Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Silverado Community Center. New members are welcome and needed.
